About the Artist

Susan Goldstein

Muddy Toes Terrariums began in my backyard. Barefoot, quiet places in nature and digging in my garden is where I am happiest. Stones, soil and plants are the foundational elements of my living landscapes, bringing the outside in as I draw upon endless exploration and inspiration from the natural world.

Each terrarium is crafted with care, one of a kind and original. Many of the pieces are hand-blown.

I make my own soil, forage moss throughout Vermont and collect shale of all sizes and shapes from Lake Champlain. Carefully selected plants combine together, secret small places for the imagination to roam, whether it is moisture-loving plants inside an enclosed terrarium/mini-ecosystem or colorful succulents in open desert landscape designs.

Enjoy!

Testimonials

I have purchased Susan’s beautiful terrarium’s for myself and as gifts. They are lovingly and artistically designed, and are constructed with knowledge and integrity, and are a gift that lasts! I couldn’t be more pleased with my Muddy Toes Terrariums! Thank you, Susan”

“I can’t say enough wonderful things about Muddy Toes.  I bought a beautiful hanging terrarium from Susan as a Christmas gift.  The arrangement was both colorful and visually interesting and the delicate glass ball it was contained in, made it all the more eye-catching; just beautiful.  Now onto the customer service—about a week before  I was going to give the terrarium to its recipient, my adorable little kitty knocked it over and, to my horror, smashed it into a million pieces.  I was heartbroken.  I found Susan’s email address inside the box and thought I’d try to find another one, but on short notice I wasn’t sure it was at all possible.  Well, Susan bent over backwards to get me a new one.  None of the stores that were selling them were very convenient to my location so she set up a meeting and brought one to me!  Not only that, but she didn’t even charge me for the replacement!

Muddy Toes terrariums are absolutely exquisite pieces of art and life, and I had one of the best customer service experiences with Susan that I’ve ever had!  People like Susan are the reason I like shopping local. I look forward to doing business with her again and would recommend her terrariums to anyone.”

“It has been a pleasure to sell Muddy Toes Terrariums at Art on Man in Bristol Vermont. As a small community art gallery I first decided to carry them only during the holiday season.  However, they were such a hit with our customers Susan has become a regular exhibitor.  People love both the aliveness and the simplicity of the terrariums.  They are lovely to look at but easy to care for so folks are not afraid to gift them to others.  We primarily carry the small globes but will be doing a special exhibit this summer featuring a wide range of terrariums alongside work by a floral photographer.  Muddy Toes Terrariums are a great fit with other beautiful, handmade objects and Susan is a pleasure to work with – communicative, on top of her inventory and flexible in dealing with any issues that might arise.”
